Workplace Occupancy for Smart Building Efficiency

Challenge

With flex working being adopted widely, the actual use and occupancy of workplaces has become more important to understand if an office building facilitates to the needs of employees, and if efficiency goals are met. Not being able to measure accurately, driving building efficiency and improve employee satisfaction is hard to do.

Solution

AMI designed and built a workplace occupancy system that is able to measure real-time if workplaces are occupied or not and predict the occupancy for the next days and weeks. No more manual counting, no miscalculation because a workplace has been taken and the employee is in meetings most of the day, nor managing based on only historical reporting. AMI for building efficiency only registers when a workplace is truly in use, which translates in to accurate data about occupancy. Resulting in improved efficiency in different areas to drive down costs for energy, security, catering and cleaning.

Entrance Door Secure Switching system

Challenge

In the semi public building of the City of Apeldoorn, visitors need to be checked in at a reception desk. Sometimes during the day, the receptionist are both not present. They often forget to close the entrance door when they leave the reception, so visitors can just walk in and have access to a main part of the building.

Solution

AMI Works created an Entrance Security system. The reception desk is now smart enough to notice if one or both receptionists are present or not. When both are not present, the entrance doors are automatically locked. When one or both are present again, the doors are unlocked automatically. The receptionists do not have to carry or switch anything. AMI’s system is seamlessly integrated with the present Control4 domotics system for office buildings. Recognizing situations real time, we are able to instruct the domotics systems what to do and when.

Smart Meeting Room Occupancy

Challenge

Most companies seem always to have lack of available meeting rooms. Unfortunately, rooms are often booked although the people don’t show up. The ‘no show’ blocks other people to use the room.

Solution

AMI designed and built a system that adds efficiency intelligence to the meeting room itself. The room is able to notice if and how many people are in the room. Matching this information with the booking agenda, enables the room to detect a ‘no show’ situation. In case a ‘no show’ lasts for 5 minutes, the room will inform the agenda system and clear the booking so the room as free to be used immediately. The system is also able to detect if the number of people using the room matches the minimum requirement. (Preventing that for instance only two people use a room equipped for twelve)

Smart Meeting Room Equipment Control

Challenge

The City of Apeldoorn has a boardroom with smart controlled light dimming, window blinds, beamer switching and privacy glass switching between clear and frosted in one control panel. Unfortunately, after meetings people often forget to switch lights, presentation screen, etc. off, causing waste of energy.

Solution

AMI Works designed and built a seamless interaction system: only when employees enter the room and sit down at the table, the room understands that a meeting is starting. In response it automatically switches all equipment: lights dimmed, windows blinded, beamer on, privacy glass switched to frosted. But also back to off when the room noticed there is not interaction of people anymore within the meeting room. AMI’s system is seamlessly integrated with the present domotics system, Control4 for office buildings provided by IT Building. Recognizing situations real time, we are able to instruct the domotics systems what to do and when.

Location Based Asset Management

Challenge

With several locations facilitating many employees, assets need to be managed. Practically, most asset information is needed when a user or facility employee is on the spot. The asset management system is not accessible for users and for Facility only via a PC.

Solution

AMI designed and built a system enabling direct access to all information of the asset, at the location of the asset itself. AMI for asset management is able to connect to asset management software; information created in one place, but accessible and workable everywhere. The system distincts different types of users to protect or share information. E.g. everyone can see users instructions, leave a quick message for the facility manager, or see how to solve minor malfunctions. The maintenance engineer can see its history logged, Facility Management can see all information and actions.

Digital Doorbell system

Challenge

Prodock facilitates 14 companies in one building, sharing the same entrance. Having no reception, it often is a challenge for visitors, parcel deliveries, etc. to enter the building and find the right person of the right company.

Solution

AMI Works created the Digital Doorbell System. A panel holding smart logo’s with and programmed chips and QR-codes for each company in the building. By simply using a smartphone to scan the QR-code or ‘tap' the logo, the visitor is automatically put in contact with the specific company.

WiFi Access in One Touch

Challenge

Being host to visitors every day, guest access to the internet via the wireless network is offered. But getting access by visitors often isn’t easy; settings need to be made manually, visitors can’t find the password and it’s hard to handle security settings.

Solution

AMI designed and built the “WiFi Access Panel”. Visitors only have to scan or tap the panel with their smartphone. This action automatically makes the connection to the WiFi network. Therefor, visitors have a one-step, simple and user-friendly way of getting internet access.

Patrol Guard Tour System

Challenge

Data Centers are continuously challenged to provide the highest security standards to their customers. The quality of patrol guard tours is depending on the execution of people. For instance how precise they walk the rounds and how precise they make the checks on critical points at the facility.

Solution

AMI designed and built an interactive way of upgrading the security level of the data center. All objects (like doors but also critical equipment) that should not be moving under certain circumstances are monitored real-time. And when they move, will send alerts to security staff. Digital checkpoints create an unpredictable patrol tour, with unpredictable checkpoints; keeping guards alert and making it hard for intruders to anticipate.

Industry & Logistics

Safety Worker in Safe Zone system

Challenge

Working in industial safety zones, rigid rules are applicable to be able to enter such a zone. A workers training certification has to be up to date together with wearing a helmet, glasses, vest, radio, etc. Checks are depending on people and high risks and costs are involved when regulations are not followed.

Solution

AMI Works designed a seamless interaction system: when workers approach the entrance gate to the secure zone, the gate is able to check on the fly: who is the person approaching, are training certifications up-to-date and is the set of safety items complete. If not, the gate will tell what is missing and safety staff will be notified of the possible security breach. Risky situations are prevented and not depending anymore on peoples judgement. More-over, if extended to the safe zone area behind the entrance, this system will also follow workers in that area. E.g. employees leaving their helmet behind will be notified immediately.

Goods and Equipment Alerting

Challenge

In the logistics and warehousing of goods, valuable inventory can be attractive to criminals. They by-pass existing security systems and security staff is notified too late.

Solution

AMI designed and built an alerting system for warehouses including all moving equipment like shovels and forklifts. When movement of equipment is detected and the circumstances are suspicious, the system automatically sends an alert to the security service and the warehouse manager. Real time detection and notification helps to act at the moment that illegal activities take place.

Insurance

Dynamic Home Insurance

Challenge

A home insurance that fits the individual needs of the customer is hard to find. Why should one have a standard home insurance based on family size, type of house and postal area code? Customers also find it difficult to prevent being over or under insured. Though most frustration occurs when valuables are stolen and the claim has to be handled with the insurance company.

Solution

AMI designed and built a system by which homeowners can easily select the belongings they want to insure (nothing more than that) and ad information like short descriptions, pictures of the object and the purchase ticket. This is then used to calculate the insurance premium. When the customer is filing a claim, the insurance company already has all information to handle the claim. Executing the claim decision and payout can be handled within an hour. Through time the consumer can manage this insurance. When a new television set has been bought, the old one can be checked out of the insurance package, and the new one checked in. The insurance premium will then automatically be recalculated. Never again over or under insured and easy claim handling.
